The gospel means "good news." It's good news because it's God's news; His rescue story for the world.
"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5.8

God prexists all that is. He spoke the universe in to existence, from the smallest microbe to the largest star. His pinnacle creation was man, a reflection of Him; made specifically to have a relationship and fellowship with Him.
"...and God saw that it was good."
"Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God" Psalm 90.2
Adam and Eve chose to rebel and disobey a command God gave them. This severed their relationship with Him. In fact, this sin broke the relationship so much that it affected all of creation.
All the pain, heartache, and injustice in the world is due to sin and particularly goes back to the sin of rebellion that Adam and Eve first committed.
"When I heard the gospel message for the first time at
Neuse Baptist Church, I accepted His free gift of salvation."
Captain John Noble, RPD, Ret.
Though man's relationship with God was severed, God made a plan to fix the breach. Throughout the ages God enacted His plan of redemption which the Bible reveals in exquisite detail.
The Messiah would come to save what was lost.
God became man and paid for mankind's sin by dying on the cross. He was the perfect and sinless sacrifice which displayed His love and mercy for all.
But the grave, it could not hold him. He conquerored sin and death through His resurrection, just as God promised.
"For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:" 1 Peter 3.18
"I was 6 years old and felt the
conviction of the Holy Spirit during
the church service. I went to the
altar and accepted Christ as my Savior. "
Faith is simply trusting in Jesus Christ to save you. It means instead of believing you can rescue yourself from the consequences of sin, you transfer your trust to the payment He purchased for you by His death. Those who place their trust in anything other than Jesus will find themselves forever separated from the loving God who gave His one and only Son to set us free from the bondage of sin. This painful separation is called Hell.
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2.8-9
